Madonna hospitalized for bacterial infection emergency requiring ICU care

The singer had to cancel the tour she had planned for more than 30 cities worldwide.

This Wednesday, it was revealed that Madonna will need to postpone her upcoming tour after developing a serious bacterial infection that led her to spend a few days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

As reported by Page Six, the 64-year-old pop queen was rushed to a New York hospital after being found unconscious last Saturday, June 24. The artist even required intubation in the ICU due to her delicate health.

Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, later explained through a statement on his Instagram that the artist had to spend several days in the intensive care unit for a bacterial infection. However, he assured the singer's health "is already improving."

Oseary said that Madonna is still under treatment and medical observation, so she will not be able to begin her scheduled tour on time. "A full recovery is expected. At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows," he said.

Marc Siegel, M.D. told Fox News that Madonna's ICU stay revealed that the artist's health issue was life-threatening and highlighted that one of the biggest concerns could be "the possibility of pneumonia or a urinary infection that spread to the blood and the lungs." However, it is not yet known exactly what type of bacterial infection the artist developed or what parts of her body were affected.

The tour

Madonna was planning to begin a tour on July 15 to celebrate four decades of her music. "The Celebration Tour" planned on featuring 80 concerts to be held in 35 cities, starting with Vancouver, Canada.
