Gun sales continue to set record numbers: 47 months above 1 million

This was confirmed by an FBI report, which details that the trend continued in June 2023.

Americans held the record for gun purchases during the month of June. According to data released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), background checks for gun purchases topped 1 million in the sixth month of the year, continuing a streak of 47 straight months in the seven figures.

The figure was celebrated in the industry and among Second Amendment advocates. For example, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) indicated that "June marks the 47th consecutive month in which more than 1 million adjusted background checks have been surpassed in a single month."

Mark Oliva, spokesman for the NSSF, celebrated the news with a "Happy Independence Day." "Americans have another million reasons to celebrate this Independence Day. More than 1.1 million times in June, Americans exercised their Second Amendment rights to lawfully purchase a firearm. That extends the streak to 47 continuous months that background checks for firearm purchases have exceeded a million," he added.

The NSSF also indicated that of the 2,152,187 background checks conducted in June, 1,110,696 were likely for gun purchases and transfers, while the remainder were for carry permits and other security permits.

"This is notable because these figures buck the demands by gun control politicians to surrender rights. Americans choose differently. They choose, by the millions, to keep and bear arms. They are keeping alive the vision of our Founding Fathers that this would be a nation that celebrates the ethos of a responsibly armed citizenry," he concluded.
