During a visit by Donald Trump to the southern border, Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, made public his support for the former president's campaign to return to the White House.
We need Donald J. Trump to return as our President of the United States of America.
Abbott expressed his support for Trump's presidential campaign, asserting that if he wins the White House in 2024, he would secure the border and "restore law and order": "We need a president who will secure the border."

For his part, the former president declared that receiving the governor's support was a "tremendous honor" due to his hard work to secure the border under the serious immigration crisis that existed during the Biden Administration:
Mr. Governor, I am going to make your job much easier. You will be able to concentrate on other things in Texas.

Abbott made his support for Trump public at an event where meals were served - on the occasion of Thanksgiving - to members of law enforcement and services working for Operation Lone Star.
Today, I was honored to serve Thanksgiving lunch to @TXMilitary and @TxDPS service members deployed for #OperationLoneStar.
Proud to have President Trump join me to thank these heroes for working around the clock to secure the border.

The governor's support for the former president comes to light as he leads the race for the Republican nomination to reach the White House in 2024. In the polls, Trump is well ahead of all his rivals. Among them: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis; Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy.
If he returns to the White House, Trump has repeatedly assured that he will be able to put an end to "all of the Biden administration's open border policies." Additionally, he has publicly stated that he will stop "the invasion of our southern border and begin the largest internal deportation operation in American history."
