"It's flawed. It was designed to smear me. It was designed to force me out of my seat," said Representative George Santos about the report of the House Ethics Committee that claims to have found "substantial evidence" that he committed numerous crimes.
Santos argued Friday on X Spaces hosted by Monica Matthews that in normal conditions, the investigative committee should have stepped aside to let the Justice Department investigate. But that "political expedience" mattered more than the process: "Due process is dead."
The representative for New York also stated that the report was written by "political staff" and that "at its best," it was a "political opposition hit piece" written with the intention of damaging someone's reputation.
Despite surviving an expulsion petition at the beginning of the month, Santos said he believes that the resolution to remove him presented by the Ethics Committee will achieve its goal of removing him from his seat. However, he maintained that it didn't bother him because he didn't want to "work with a bunch of hypocrites."
It's gross. I have colleagues who are more worried about getting drunk every night with the next lobbyists that they're going to sc*** and pretend like none of us know what's going on and sell off the American people.
[They do] not show up to vote because they're too hungover or whatever the reason is, or not show up to vote at all and just give their card out like f***ing candy for someone else to vote for them. This s**t happens every single week. Where are the ethics investigations? That breaks House rules.

Santos, who has already announced that he will not run for re-election, also vindicated his career and said that he would not resign because by doing so, he would be agreeing with the accusations in the report.
