A preliminary 7.0-magnitude earthquake was reported this Friday, October 9, by the Institute of Geosciences at the University of Panama, with the epicenter located about 24 miles west of Tonosí.
According to La Estrella de Panamá, the earthquake occurred at 12:56 p.m. local time at a depth of about 6.2 miles, and was felt in various parts of the country, according to citizen reports.
The Institute of Geosciences indicated that the data on the event remains preliminary and may be updated.
