María Corina Machado publicly condemned the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro for kidnapping Milciades Ávila, head of her security team, and Edwin Moya, a team member.

"Maduro and his regime committed yet another crime. They have kidnapped two honest men, fathers of families, Milciades Avila and Edwin Moya, whose job is to protect our security. Both have fulfilled their responsibility in an exemplary manner, always aware of the risk that this implied, in the face of a tyranny that the world today qualifies as a corrupt and criminal system," Machado wrote in X, accompanying her text with photographs of Avila and Moya.

From Vente Venezuela (VV), the political party led by Machado, informed that the whereabouts of the two bodyguards are unknown. Avila and Moya were kidnapped this weekend.

"Milciades Avila and Edwin Moya, members of Maria Corina Machado's security team were kidnapped this past weekend by members of the repressive forces of the regime. We demand to know where they are and their immediate release," communicated VV in its X account.

The kidnapping or arrest of opponents of the dictatorship is one of Maduro's most common practices, with the aim of repressing and intimidating anyone who opposes his position. One of the latest was Rocío San Miguel, a well-known human rights defender in Venezuela, who was arrested along with five members of her family.
