At least two Israeli tourists were killed in a shooting on Sunday after a police officer shot at a group of tourists in the Egyptian city of Alexandria.

According to several local media outlets, which have close ties to Egyptian security sources, the policeman is said to be one of the officers in charge of security in the area. He allegedly fired his weapon at a bus full of tourists in the Mansheya area. The AP agency also reported, citing sources from the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior, that one Egyptian citizen was killed. Local media reports claim the person killed was the group's guide.

According to the local channel Extra News, also cited by AP, there was at least one other person injured in the shooting. The incident took place near the site of Pompey's Column, an area which is commonly frequented by tourists, largely from Israel. The suspect in the shooting has been arrested.

The attack occurred in Egypt which neighbors Israel. On the other side of the border, the Israeli army is fighting one of the largest terrorist attacks in its history.
