Everyone belongs to a generation with well-defined and differentiated characteristics. The groups usually are confined to periods of 15 to 20 years, and the limits have been established by several sociologists and anthropologists according to their differences, from the changes in people's behavior to the most important technological, social or economic changes of each era.

Baby boomers and millennials are among the most well-known generations today. However, the youngest people nowadays are from Gen Z and Gen Alpha. Which generation do you belong to?

The Silent Generation (1928-1945)

This classification includes those who were born during World War II. They are known as post-war children or the Silent Generation and are the least numerous of all. Many be that birth rates were low because people felt less confident about starting a family due to the difficulties and uncertainty at the time.

The problems that this generation had to face forged their character. They are individuals who were educated in a culture of effort and sacrifice, which made them thrifty, hardworking and respectful.

Baby boomers (1946-1964)

This generation was born at the end of World War II and the years directly after. In these years, there were several social changes; women were increasingly entering the workforce and were part of major movements for civil rights.

Baby boomers are considered to be resourceful and know how to take advantage of the resources available to them. They also value relationships with family and friends and are self-sufficient and competitive.

Generation X (1965-1980)

According to the Pew Research Center, Generation X was born between 1965 and 1980. They witnessed the advent of the Internet and faced important political and social changes such as the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

They are considered a struggling and hardworking generation that was witness to a time of many changes and transitions. They experienced technological advances and were the first to know inventions such as the Walkman, the CD and the desktop computer. Most are overly protective parents.

Millennials (1981-1996)

Millennials are known for being good at embracing change because of all the technological advances they have had to deal with. Most were teenagers when social networks were created, which changed the way they communicated with each other.

Although many people consider them lazy, they are actually very well prepared in terms of technology and academics. In addition, they are demanding and well-informed. People in this group are considered to be the second-largest generation of voters in the United States.

Another characteristic of people in this group is that they have taken a long time to start their families and get married. In fact, many of them extend the time they live at home with their parents.

Generation Z (1997-2012)

outnumbers millennials; they were born in the splendor of the digital era and are self-taught, talented, creative young people who adapt to new environments. The employment situation is no better for them; they suffer higher unemployment rates than many of their predecessors, although for this reason they are considered the most enterprising group.

One of their weaknesses is that they are less able to sustain their attention on targets that do not arrive quickly. Although they have a reputation for being individualistic and self-centered, they are really caring and their commitment to society is very high, it is not enough to raise a family and have a good job, this group intends to change the world.

Generation Alpha (2013-Present)

The experts do not seem to agree on the exact year of birth of the Alpha generation (Gen Alpha). However, it is known that this group will not know a life without social networks or the Internet, and for this reason, their consumption habits will be affected, since most of their purchases will be made online and their contact with society will be significantly reduced.

It is believed that they will be self-sufficient, independent and more educated to cope with any obstacle, as well as being the healthiest and most consumerist middle-class group yet.
