Florida investigates sexually explicit drag queen show for children
Governor Ron DeSantis' press secretary informed that they are looking into whether the organizers could potentially be charged with criminal liability.
The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) has launched an investigation into a drag show performed in Fort Lauderdale. The show received multiple complaints for advertising itself as suitable for all audiences while containing "sexually explicit acting.”
A 'Drag Queen Christmas', as the show is called, has been performed at different venues around the country, including the Broward Center of the Performing Arts in Florida. Although the performing arts center included in the description that it "may contain adult content," it labeled the show as suitable "for all ages."
After receiving multiple photos and videos from people who attended the event, the state of Florida launched an investigation. Both the Department of Law Enforcement and DBPR are looking into whether the organizers could be charged for potential criminal liability.
Bryan Griffin, press secretary for Governor Ron DeSantis, posted on his Twitter account, “The Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) is aware of multiple complaints about a sexually explicit performance marketed to children.”
He added, "Exposing children to sexually explicit activities is a crime in Florida, and such action violates the Department (of Business and Professional Regulation) licensing standards for operating a business and holding a liquor license."
