Trump amplifies attacks on María Elvira Salazar after she questioned his immigration policy
The dispute between the president and the Republican congresswoman escalated after Salazar warned that some immigration control measures had gone "too far."

Donald Trump once again distanced himself from María Elvira Salazar. After the Republican congresswoman criticized his administration's immigration policy, the president shared a series of posts from others targeting Salazar on his Truth Social account, including some that called her a traitor and urged her replacement.
Salazar, who has represented Florida's 27th congressional district in the House of Representatives since 2021, posted a campaign ad in mid-September that was filmed in front of the White House and addressed to President Trump: "Some of your immigration control measures have gone too far. The very same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024, today feel betrayed."
"I'm not talking about amnesty; I'm talking about giving them a dignified life in the promised land, and only you can do that," she added. Shortly afterward, Trump responded to the congresswoman after a reporter's question: "I understand what she's saying, but I feel very strongly about this… I won because of my border," Trump said when asked about the congresswoman's stance.

"She's a nice person. I got her elected. María won only because of me. So she got a little bit softer than the border; I understand that. I understand that, but I just don't happen to be there," he added.
Salazar has received President Trump's endorsement in all of her elections, including this one. On November 3, she will seek a fourth term in the House and will face off against Democrat Elliot Rodríguez, a television host who recently spoke with Karina Yapor for Voz News.
The criticism of Salazar that Trump amplified
The president surprised everyone on Saturday night by amplifying a series of posts from other users on Truth Social that harshly criticized Salazar.
Among the posts Trump shared were the following:
- "(Salazar) is nothing but a back stabber. I'm glad the Latino support hasn't wavered."
- "So we need a NEW Republican to Replace Salazar."
- "Didn't she voted with Trump 99% of the time? Trump must remove his endorsement from her."
- "I'm one of those voters in her district. I should have voted for the guy that primaried her."
- "Find out who PAID her to say those things... Press, DO YOUR JOB."
- "She wants amnesty for the people how criminally crossed our borders defying our laws."
