National Guard already working on the 'beautification' of DC: Cleanup and trash pickup

The National Guard began tasks to "beautify" Washington, D.C. In addition to working to lower crime rates, officers are assisting with cleanup and trash collection in the nation's capital.

In recent weeks, approximately 2,200 National Guard members arrived in D.C. from different states, such as Mississippi and West Virginia. While their main task is to help combat crime, another one of Donald Trump's goals is to tidy up the city.

"This week, Soldiers and Airmen conducted site surveys in coordination with federal and local partners to begin community restoration project," the D.C. National Guard's X account announced. 

"I think it’s nice, as a D.C. resident. But there are different things we could be doing," one National Guard member told the Washington Post.

Recently, President Trump visited law enforcement at the U.S. Park Police operations center in Anacostia. Along with other cabinet members, the president thanked them for their work and brought them food.

During the visit, Trump pledged to restore the "beauty" to Washington, D.C., making it one of the most attractive capitals in the world. To that end, he plans to ask Congress for additional funds to redo pavement, medians and parks.

"The grass here died about 40 years ago. So, we're going to be rebuilding all of your parks and it's going to happen fast. It's going to go up like a miracle. So, you do the job on safety and I'll get this place fixed up physically and we're going to be so proud of it at the end of six months, but let's say at the end of a year. This place will be maxed out in terms of beauty. You'll have all new surfaces. You'll have all new medians. Everything's going to look beautiful," he said.
