President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons. His statement came a day after he signed an order to reinstate the maximum pressure policy on that country, which is accused of trying to develop nuclear weaponry.
"I want Iran to be a great and successful Country, but one that cannot have a Nuclear Weapon," Trump posted on his Social Truth account.
Trump also dismissed reports that the U.S. is working with Israel "to blow Iran to smithereens." He claimed these statements "ARE GREATLY EXAGGERATED."
"I would much prefer a Verified Nuclear Peace Agreement, which will let Iran peacefully grow and prosper. We should start working on it immediately, and have a big Middle East Celebration when it is signed and completed," Trump stressed.
During a press conference with Trump on Tuesday in Washington, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed that Tehran should never have nuclear weapons.
During his first term, which ended in 2021, Trump withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear deal with Western powers and reinstated sanctions against the country.
