Republican Representative Lauren Boebert formally announced the impeachment vote against Joe Biden for his handling of the immigration crisis at the southern border. Boebert thus moved the vote forward to this week, in opposition to the plans of her fellow party members in the House.

Boebert made her official announcement late Tuesday and caught the House of Representatives by surprise. She clarified, however, that the GOP leadership was aware of his decision to move up the date of the motion. Boebert's resolution includes two separate articles of impeachment: one for abuse of power and another for negligence in the performance of duty.

The Democratic Party has already announced that it would respond with a counter-motion to block Boebert's impeachment as soon as possible, Democratic Rep. Katherine Clark assured in a statement. The goal is to prevent the impeachment from even reaching the voting stage in the full House.

Some sectors of the GOP criticized Boebert's decision. They allude to a lack of time to properly prepare the impeachment against President Biden. According to statements made by sources close to Speaker McCarthy to The Hill, McCarthy has asked fellow representatives to oppose impeachment during the plenary session.

According to Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, McCarthy expected Boebert to communicate her decision to the party before filing her impeachment. Boebert reportedly responded that she would weigh in. "She basically copied my articles and then introduced them and then changed them to a privileged resolution," Greene told The Hill.

Boebert's opponents believe that the best thing to do to see an impeachment succeed is to give Republican-controlled congressional committees more time to tighten the accusations against Biden, especially after Hunter Biden plead guilty to two misdemeanor charges for weapons possession and tax fraud. According to Newsweek, some of Boebert's congressional entourage are of this same opinion, which threatens to leave the Colorado representative without sufficient support this week.
