Cornel West, intellectual and radical left-wing activist, first independent candidate
The veteran philosophy professor announces his intention to run for the White House in 2024 with insults to past presidents and a clearly socialist agenda.
Progressive intellectual and activist Cornel West announced that he will run as an independent candidate in the 2024 presidential elections. West, who is running for the People's Party, said his priorities will be to create a "true democracy," fight for an end to poverty, end wars, revitalize the economy, expand civil liberties, medicare for all and protect the environment.
Universal access to housing, dissolving the NATO...
In a post and video uploaded to his twitter account, the veteran scholar insists on the need to "reintroduce America to the best of itself." To this end, in addition to the main lines of its program, it is necessary to guarantee universal access to housing and living wages for all citizens. For the end of the conflicts he announced his intention to disband NATO.
Trump, "neo-fascist"; Biden, "milquetoast neoliberal"
In the video presentation of his proposal, West also says that he has taken the step of participating outside of the two major political formations because "no political party wants to tell the truth about Wall Street, about Ukraine, about the Pentagon, about Big Tech." He also took the opportunity to lash out at the last two presidents, saying that Donald Trump is a "neo-fascist" and Joe Biden, "a milquetoast neoliberal."
West is known as a radical left-wing activist. His criticism of former President Barack Obama, whom he called a "war criminal" caused a stir. In 2016 and 2020 he supported Senator Bernie Sanders, a Democratic Socialist, in his presidential bids. He has taught at Harvard and Princeton Universities, but is currently Professor of Philosophy at Union Theological Seminary.
The People's Party was created by Nick Brana, a staff member who worked on Sanders' campaign to win the Democratic presidential nomination in the 2016 primaries.
