Biden further erodes the image of the Democratic Party
The perception of the Democratic Party falls four points while that of the GOP advances and outperforms, for the first time since 2020, its political rival.
The image of the Democratic Party is more negative than that of the Republican Party (GOP). According to a Gallup survey the Biden Administration's performance puts the Democratic Party's favorable perception at 39%, a figure that is close to the party's all-time low. (36% in 2014) and down 4% compared to 2021. On the other hand, the image of the Republican Party (44%) is reinforced and increases by four percentage points compared to last year.
Despite the two parties failing in image, the GOP hasn't had a better perception than its political rival since January 2020. In the last decade, each of the political parties passed only one time (both with 51%: the Democratic Party in 2012 and the Republican Party in 2020).
The image of the Democratic Party is also falling among its supporters
The Democratic Party's image among its supporters falls to 84%, eight points below last year's record (92%). Since January 2021, when it registered one of the best perception numbers (94%). The image of Democrats themselves has suffered a progressive decline, with a total drop of ten points.
The Republican Party continues to climb in image among its voters. It progressed from 78% last year to the current 84%. Although it still has room to reach the 97% obtained in September 2020.
In general terms, the image of the Democratic Party among its own supporters is better and more stable than that of the Republican Party among its affinity groups. On the other hand, independents are critical of both parties, giving them both only a 34% favorable image.
GOP also 'wins' in protection and prosperity
Of the total respondents, the Republican Party has a better rating in both safety and security and in maintaining the country's prosperity. 57% percent think the GOP is the party that best protects against international terrorist or military threats, compared to 37% for the Democratic Party. 95% of Republican voters, 57% of independents and 12% of Democrats think the GOP protects and guarantees security better.
Since 2002, Republicans have been consistently superior in this regard (except in 2007) and this year's record is the best rating the GOP has achieved in two decades.
As for who best ensures the country's prosperity, respondents see the Republican Party (51%) with better conditions and capabilities in this aspect. The Democratic Party received ten points less (41%).
While facing high inflation and poor economic conditions, nearly all Republican supporters (94%), one in two independents (47%) and just 9% of those who identify with the Democratic Party see the GOP as the party best suited to maintain America's prosperity.
