The excitement for Threads didn’t even last a month. Despite the tremendous success of the new application during the first few days after its launch, what promised to be Twitter’s rival has already lost 82% of its active users, and everything indicates that its numbers will continue to decrease.

Although the Meta application broke all records by getting 70 million users to sign up in just 24 hours, weeks later it was revealed that only 13 million users were using the social network daily. A new report indicates that the numbers continue to fall, as the platform currently only has eight million active users per day.

Reports also indicate that on the day of the launch of Mark Zuckerberg’s new app, users opened Threads around 14 times and stayed on it for approximately 19 minutes. However, since August 1, people have only logged on to the platform about 2.6 times a day and are on it for an average of 2.9 minutes.

Despite all this, Meta’s CEO remains hopeful about the application. “We saw unprecedented growth out of the gate and more importantly we’re seeing more people coming back daily than I’d expected. And now, we’re focused on retention and improving the basics. And then after that, we’ll focus on growing the community to the scale we think is possible,” he said.

Twitter is not at its best either

Even as Twitter’s main rival seems to be slowly slipping, Elon Musk’s app is not going through its best moment either. Recently Twitter’s CEO reported that the social network’s cash flow remains negative due to its falling advertising revenue and debt load.

Musk has made many changes since acquiring the communications company, including a transformation of its logo, but so far, the social network remains a source of financial loss for its owners.
