"The Little Mermaid" marked the beginning of this summer's movie releases. However, it is not the most anticipated by U.S. viewers. According to a survey conducted by Morning Consultant of more than 2,000 American adults, the top spot goes hands down to "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny."

The film, starring Harrison Ford, piqued the interest of 51% of respondents. This is no surprise, as it will be the final film in which the legendary actor will play the role of the mythical adventurous archaeologist, which he has been playing since 1981. It is also no surprise which generations are most looking forward to this film. According to the survey results, 63% of Generation X are interested in seeing this film. They are followed by baby boomers, two of the generations that grew up watching Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones.

Not tired of superheroes

Second place goes to the sequel to the animated Spider-Man film. Titled "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," the animated film starring Miles Morales drew interest from half of respondents. This film appeals especially to the younger generation. In this way, the survey assures that 67% of adults from Generation Z and 64% of Millennials will go to theaters to see this new installment of Spider-Man.

It's all about superheroes. With the second most fan interest was for a Marvel film, third place went to DC, with "The Flash," starring Ezra Miller. The controversial actor stars as Barry Allen in a film that 44% of respondents claimed they were interested in. The accusations accumulated by the actor, which include robberies, assaults and burglary, do not seem to affect the early reception of the film. As detailed by Morning Consult, 55% of Millennials as well as 51% of both Generation Z and Generation X adults say they are interested in going to theaters to see this new installment of the DC Cinematic Universe.

Film sagas continue to appeal to moviegoers

With "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" taking the top spot, other mythical film sagas were not far behind. "Mission Impossible: Death Reckoning - Part 1" and "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" rank fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Morning Consult ranking.

The seventh installment of the film saga starring Tom Cruise received the same percentage as "The Flash," and 44% of respondents say it is one of their most anticipated summer films.

Slightly below is "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts." The seventh film in the alien car saga drew interest from 43% of those polled, making it the fifth most anticipated movie release this summer. Fans will not have to wait long, as the film will be released on June 9.

The top 10 is closed by "The Little Mermaid," "Haunted Mansion," "The Equalizer 3," "The Boogeyman" and "Insidious: The Red Door," demonstrating, once again, that nostalgia continues to be an attraction for cinema. All of these films are either remakes or sequels in other well-known film sagas. The only exception is "The Boogeyman," an original horror film, another of the most anticipated genres in the coming months.
