The former president's son, Donald Trump Jr., testified in the civil fraud trial in New York. Trump's eldest son, 45, appeared before the judge for 90 minutes on Wednesday and claimed that his role and that of his brother, Eric Trump, in the finances of the family business, the Trump Organization, had been minor.
In fact, Donald Trump Jr., assured that he had not helped prepare that year's declaration, one of the charges against him: "The accountants worked on it. That’s why we pay them," he declared when asked about the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAPP) as well as the standardized practices and guidelines used by the companies to safeguard their financial records.
That same ignorance was what he showed when he was asked, reports The Guardian, if his father continues to be the administrator of the trust: "I don’t recall." The businessman justified himself by saying that it was because he resigned for a brief time in 2021 and was then restored to the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust. However, he explained, he had "autonomy to do what I wanted." However, he consulted with Trump's former chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, before making any decisions.
Trump's three children called to testify
Donald Trump Jr. is the first of the former president's children called to testify in the New York civil fraud trial. He will continue his appearance this Thursday and will be followed by his brother Eric Trump who will testify this Thursday and Friday. On Monday, the former president himself will testify as a defendant in the $250 million lawsuit.
Days later, on November 8, Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka, must appear before the judge and testify. All of them are accused of obtaining financial benefits and better conditions from loans and insurance policies: "As Executive Vice Presidents, the three children were intimately involved in the operation of the Trump Organization's business," the complaint reads.
