Daylight shooting in New York City kills one man, injures three others

Authorities have apprehended the suspect but do not know the motive for the attack as the shooting appears to have been random.

A man provoked terror on the streets of New York City early Saturday morning after firing seemingly random shots at people, businesses and cars while riding a scooter. The shooting killed one person and injured three others.

According to police reports, the first shot was fired at around 11 a.m. (local time) in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, at a young man of 21. After that, he continued firing shots in five different places, injuring another 44-year-old man (in critical condition) and another 63-year-old man.

One of the shots ended the life of an 87-year-old man while he was on Jamaica Avenue near 108th Street.

The police explained that they are investigating the case and do not yet know the motive. However, they said there does not appear to be any pattern among the victims, so it is believed that these were random shootings.

"We don't know the motive…If you look at the demographics and pedigree of the victims, they're all different. At this time, video shows that he's not targeting anybody. He's not following anybody as he's driving on his scooter, he's randomly shooting people," said Deputy Chief of the Bureau of Detectives, Joseph Kenny.

Suspect arrested

The suspect was found and arrested near 94th Avenue about two hours after the attack began, and although the man's identity has not been released, it is known that he had been arrested in the past.

The authorities reported that in addition to the suspect, they also managed to recover the semi-automatic pistol with which he had fired the shots, as well as the magazines and the scooter without a license plate on which he was riding.
