The non-profit organization Archivo Cuba denounced the extrajudicial murder of 21 citizens by "enabled and empowered state agents" of the Cuban tyrannical regime since July 2021:
Since July 2021, 21 Cubans have been killed by state agents enabled and empowered by the Cuban government.
The group highlighted the serious level of repression and violation of human rights by the Cuban regime. According to their article, "4,374 extrajudicial executions have been carried out to date... since January 1, 1959, of which 3,069 were executions ordered without due process of law." These numbers do not include "thousands more deaths due to other political causes."
More repression since the 2021 protests
The organization stated that the Cuban regime has reinforced its level of repression, increasing its militarization the country ever since the protests carried out in 2021. According to them, the demonstrations were "violently put down" and resulted in more than 1,600 arrests:
Peaceful demonstrations and arrests have continued throughout the country; to date, at least 909 people have been sentenced to prison, 773 remain in custody and 84 have been forced into exile. Following the protests, the Cuban government enabled and encouraged a massive mass exodus that has cost many lives.
Almost all murders at the hands of the police
The 21 extrajudicial killings counted by the organization are linked to the regime's forces of law and order. Five civilians died at the hands of the officers and another five victims died while in police custody.
The other eight citizens were killed trying to escape from the island to the United States. While enroute, they were rammed by Cuban Border Guard boats. A pregnant survivor who managed to escape and reach Miami told a media outlet (not specified in the article):
When the border guards saw us boarding the boat, they attacked us from behind and neutralized the engines. Immediately, they attacked us from the side and said they were going to split the boat in half, which they did. They chased us with everything they had to kill us. They had no mercy on us.
Almost all of the victims were under the age of 50 (including a baby girl as young as 2 years old).
"Despite the continuing crimes of the Cuban dictatorship, most of the international community continues to grant it impunity, credibility and support," concludes Archivo Cuba's communiqué.
