Considerable increase in anti-Semitism in the US: The FBI registers a record number of hate crimes

According to the statistics released, anti-Semitic crimes increased by 36% between 2022 and 2021, up from 824 to 1,124.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation ( FBI ) revealed that anti-Semitic hate crimes increased by 36% in 2022. It represented the highest percentage among crimes reported for religious reasons, well above Muslims and Christians. Joe Biden spoke out in a statement and condemned the increase recorded.

According to statistics released by the FBI, 1,124 hate crimes against Jews were recorded in 2022, a figure representing a 36% increase compared to the 824 observed in 2021.

Additionally, hate crimes against Islamists barely increased in the same period. The 158 in 2022 were slightly more than the 153 in 2021.

77.5% of the 14,631 law enforcement agencies across the United States participated in creating the 2022 hate crimes report.

The president reviewed the figures and condemned the increase on Wednesday, stating that "the data is a reminder that hate never goes away, it only hides" and noting that "any hate crime is a stain on the soul of the United States."

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) also spoke out on the matter and condemned both the general statistics and those referring to Jews. "Reported hate crime incidents across the country have once again reached record highs, with anti-Jewish hate crimes at a number not seen in decades," said Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of ADL.

"At a time when the Jewish community is already reeling in the wake of a terrorist attack that constituted the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust, the reality of this data is incredibly sobering. And yet, these numbers are not surprising. They are consistent with ADL's own data and the trends we have been monitoring for years," he added.
