The part of the Los Angeles freeway that was closed due to damage after a fire at a homeless encampment will reopen Tuesday, authorities announced on Friday. The reopening of Interstate 10 comes much sooner than expected.
Newsom's state government ordered the closure of the highway after the fire due to potential structural damage. According to estimates, nearly 300,000 vehicles use the freeway on a daily basis.

Authorities estimated that the section of I-10 affected by the fires would be closed for maintenance for more than a month. It is a relief for traffic in Los Angeles, which will have the highway before the start of the Thanksgiving holidays, which involve increased travel by families.
"I’m grateful for the crews working around the clock to safely repair the 10 so we can get Los Angeles’s traffic moving in days instead of weeks," Governor Newsom said Friday in statements reported by The New York Times.
Last Tuesday, Gov. Newsom appeared before the media and announced that according to investigations, the fire that closed the interstate highway was an act of arson. He assured that the relevant authorities had opened a further investigation into the incident.
