Biden administration opposes bill that would ban using federal funds to house illegal immigrants

The White House alleged that the measure "would significantly restrict the ability of the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture."

The Office of Republican Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis reported that the Biden administration opposes a bill that intends to prohibit the use of federal funds to house illegal immigrants.

"The [White House] has just announced they are OPPOSED to my bill that would prevent migrant housing on federal park land," her office said in a message in which it detailed that the Democratic administration not only caused a border crisis but, in her opinion, has promoted it at taxpayers' expense.

The statements from Malliotakis' office come after the White House published a brief statement in which it explained that it opposes the bill on the grounds that it "would significantly restrict the ability of the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture to make decisions regarding the appropriate uses of their lands and resources."

In that sense, the Democratic government recognized that Malliotakis' intention is to prevent illegal immigrant shelters from being built, for example, in national parks. However, it insists that this would affect federal work even in emergency or other situations.

The Republican's bill came at a time when Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that in October, it registered 309,221 encounters nationwide with illegal immigrants. The data was published on the agency's official website. This data represents an increase of more than 30,000 migrant encounters compared to the same period last year.
