Barcelona lose to Arsenal in their first game of their U.S. tour

The team coached by Xavi Hernandez showed that it is not yet sufficiently prepared to play at the highest level, with a poor defensive performance.

It was not the start thatFC Barcelona wanted to their tour of the United States. They lost 5-3 to Arsenal FC in their first preseason match. The game was played at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

The reigning Spanish First Division champions were far from the team they showed to be last season. They were effective on the attack, but in defense they left much to be desired. Unaccustomed to this, the Spanish team conceded five goals. They did manage to take the lead twice, but were hit right back by an Arsenal side that quickly exposed Barcelona's defensive shortcomings.

"It was a very good game for the show, not so much for the coaches. It was back and forth. It was noticeable that they were much more prepared than we were. We have been soft in defense," said Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez at the post-game press conference.

Robert Lewandowski scored the first goal of the match (0-1) in the 7th minute. Six minutes later, Bukayo Saka (1-1) leveled the score before Raphinha put Barcelona ahead again (1-2) in the 34th minute. With 120 seconds left in the first half, Kai Havertz tied the match again (2-2).

In the second half, Arsenal's Belgian midfielder Leandro Trossard scored twice in the 55th minute (3-2) and 78th minute (4-2). Ferrán Torres reduced the deficit (4-3) in the 88th minute and, 60 seconds later, Fabio Vieira scored the final goal to put the score at 5-3.

Barcelona's next game on its preseason tour of the United States will be against Real Madrid. Dallas' AT&T Stadium will host “El Clásico” this Saturday at 4 p.m. CT.
