Authorities search for missing helicopter between Nevada and California with five Marines on board

The helicopter's last known location was in the Cleveland National Forest in California.

Rescue teams are searching for a helicopter that disappeared with five Marines on board. It is the CH-53E Super Stallion, assigned to Navy Heavy Helicopter Squadron (HMH) 361. The last known location of the aircraft was in the Cleveland National Forest.

The helicopter left Creech Air Force Base in Nevada on Tuesday and was headed to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, according to a source who spoke to USNI News.

"The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing is coordinating search and rescue efforts with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and the Civil Air Patrol," according to the statement provided to USNI News.
