The Taliban government reported 2,053 dead and 9,240 injured after a series of earthquakes on Saturday, according to Reuters. The latest data from the Red Crescent estimates that there have been around 500 deaths.
Since 12:11 noon local time, more than seven earthquakes have been reported with magnitudes between 5.5 and 6.5. The latter, which hit the northern province of Badakhshan, is one of the worst in the country's history, according to the same agency.

"A temporary camp has been set up for people who have lost their houses and need shelter for now," Red Crescent spokesman Irfanullah Sharafzai said in statements reported by the AP. "Whatever is in our capacity we will do for our poor and needy people at this difficult time." According to official data, the earthquakes have destroyed 1,320 homes.
