5.3 magnitude earthquake hits West Texas

The National Geological Survey reported that a magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck West Texas at 4:27 a.m. Wednesday.

The earthquake had a depth of 7.4 kilometers and occurred about 24 kilometers southwest of Mentone (200 kilometers east of El Paso). The movement was also felt in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.
