Super Bowl LVII one million viewers shy of being the most watched in history

This year's game gathered an average of 113 million viewers, close to the record set by the 2015 edition. The halftime show was also the second most watched.

An average of 113 million viewers watched the Kansas City Chiefs win their third Vince Lombardi Trophy, their second in the last four seasons, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35. It was the most-watched Super Bowl in the last six years.

An estimated 182.6 million people tuned into the game at any given time on Fox Sports and other digital platforms.

Super Bowl LVII fell just short of the record set by Super Bowl XLIX, which pitted the New England Patriots against the Seattle Seahawks. That game was watched by an average of 114.44 million people.

Second most-watched Super Bowl halftime show

Aside from the game itself, the halftime show is the other major attraction of each Super Bowl. This year it was performed by Rihanna, who sung some of her best hits such as “Umbrella,” the song with which she rose to fame in 2007, “We Found Love” (2011) and “Diamonds” (2012).

Her performance, along with Chris Stapleton's rendition of the national anthem, garnered 118.7 million viewers on average across all platforms that streamed Super Bowl LVII. This makes it the second most watched halftime show in history, second only to Katy Perry's performance at Super Bowl XLIX in 2015.
