Socialist government of Bolivia breaks relations with Israel and decides to support Hamas

The Foreign Ministry suggested that the Jewish state has been carrying out “all types of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.”

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia, Freddy Mamani, announced that his country has decided to break diplomatic relations with Israel in response to the “disproportionate Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip.”

This Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia published a press release announcing that the government made the decision to break ties with the Jewish State “in repudiation and condemnation of the aggressive and disproportionate Israeli military offensive that is being carried out in the Gaza Strip and threatens international peace and security.”

Bolivia did not mention the Palestinian terrorist group or the damage that Israel has suffered after the October 7 attack, such as the murders and kidnappings carried out by Hamas. They suggest that it has been Israel that has carried out “all types of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.”

The Latin American country affirms that its decision is “consistent with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, the rights to life, liberty” and peace, and even demands “the cessation of attacks in the Gaza Strip that have caused, until now, thousands of civilian fatalities and the forced displacement of Palestinians.”

Evo Morales’ request

The break in relations occurred shortly after the Bolivian former president, Evo Morales, published a list of demands for actions against Israel “due to the horrific situation suffered by the Palestinian people” on his social networks.

“We again demand the following from the government of Bolivia: breaking diplomatic relations with the State of Israel, declaring the State of Israel as a terrorist State, presenting a complaint to the International Criminal Court for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity against Benjamin Netanyahu and his accomplices, summon the Foreign Ministry to give explanations about their support for the commission of these crimes to the representatives of the United States and the European Union in the country and send humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip,” Morales wrote.

Colombia could be next

Another socialist government that could be close to breaking diplomatic relations with Israel is that of Colombia.

The Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, has made several publications criticizing the Jewish state. In response, Israel decided to stop exports of security equipment to the Latin American country. Instead of recanting, the president made another publication blaming the Jewish state for unleashing violence and threatening to suspend ties with the country in conflict. “If we have to suspend foreign relations with Israel, we suspend them,” he said.
