Sources related to the case told Reuters that the operation took place in Sinaloa in northern Mexico.

Security authorities arrested on Thursday Mexican drug trafficker Ovidio Guzmán, son of notorious drug trafficker Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán. Sources related to the case told Reuters that the operation took place in Culiacán Rosales in the state of Sinaloa.

In addition, several altercations during Guzmán's detention were reported.

According to journalist Ioan Grillo, Guzmán is already being held at Camp 1, one of Mexico's most important military bases:

Ovidio is already at Camp 1, the most important military base in Mexico City, according to Radio Fórmula. AMLO is slaying the Culiacanazo demon, capturing El Ratón just before Biden's visit to Mexico next week.

This arrest comes four days before Joe Biden's official visit to Mexico. Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) confirmed during his press conference this morning that the country's security forces were carrying out an operation, without specifying what it was about.

"There is an operation that began in the early hours of the morning, and later we will you all about it... we will inform you later so that you have precise information, let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Secretary of Public Security will surely inform you," said AMLO. Some time later, we learned that the operation consisted of the arrest of El Chapo's son.

Arrest in 2019

In 2019, security forces arrested Guzmán in Culiacan during an operation against drug trafficking. His arrest was very brief, however, because the Sinaloa cartel threatened to provoke a massacre of civilians if Ovidio Guzmán was not released.
