Megyn Kelly interviews Trump to clarify his version of Mar-a-Lago and his management of covid: "I don't know who gave the presidential mention to Fauci"

The former president spoke with the presenter about a wide range of topics, including how he handled the pandemic in 2020.

Donald Trump stopped by the studio of the Megyn Kelly Show to offer an interview to the former Fox host. During the program, Megyn Kelly questioned the former president about the sensitive documents that brought Trump to justice in the Mar-a-Lago case as well as about covid and its origin.

During his appearance on Sirius XM, Trump again defended his innocence in the case of the confidential documents that he allegedly took with him on his way out of the White House. He assured that everything he did is under the protection of the Presidential Records Act.

Despite this response, the journalist asked Trump why he did not respond to the Justice Department's request to hand over those documents. The former president maintained that he complied with all orders and subpoenas from the Department of Justice and that despite this, federal agents carried out the search of his Mar-a-Lago mansion. According to Trump, they then found more documents that he would not have turned over at the time.

"I would have given it to them. We had a meeting, I said, 'What do you want?" said Trump, who also added that despite maintaining meetings with the Department of Justice to find out what they were looking for, they were not cooperative and instead carried out the search of their mansion "because they are doing this for political reasons. The reason they're doing this is because of election interference." "All I know is that I have permission to have those documents," the former president concluded on this issue.

Presidential commendation for Fauci

Trump and Kelly also talked about the former president's handling of the covid pandemic. Trump said that while he was in the White House, covid was still something relatively new and unknown and that therefore, now with hindsight, he prefers not to criticize the efforts of others.

As for Fauci, the White House's public face for the covid threat, Kelly questioned why Trump elevated him to such responsibility. The former president claimed he has no idea who offered Fauci a presidential commendation, even though he signed it himself.

"I overturned a lot of the things he did. He was much less important to me," Trump continued. "Now, with all that said, he's been there for years. He was respected. He lost a lot of respect because of covid," Trump said in his interview.
