Islamic State confirms death of its leader in armed clash with Turkey

Abu al Husein al Huseini al Qurashi had been leading the terrorist group for eight months and has died in Syria.

The Islamic State (IS) confirmed the death of its leader, Abu al Husein al Huseini al Qurashi, at the hands of Turkish Intelligence services during a clash between the two sides in the city of Idlib (Syria). It happened last April but the terrorist group's spokesman, Abu Huzaifa al Ansari, announced the news in the last few hours:

We express the condolences of the soldiers of the Islamic State on the death of the caliph of the believers, Abu al Hussein al Husseini al Qurashi.

In addition, the spokesman noted that Abu Hafs al Hashimi al Qurashi will be the new caliph of the Islamic State. "He accepted the assignment and has assumed power," he said.

Abu al Husein al Huseini al Qurashi was appointed leader of the terrorist group in November 2022. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the terrorist leader's death in late April.

He is the third top Islamic State leader to die in less than two years. In 2022, opponents of the Syrian terrorist group shot down the first one. The second was killed in July last year, in a U.S.-led operation by Syrian and Iraqi fighters.
