Gold Cup: Mexico gets off to a good start with 4-0 win over Honduras

Jimmy Lozano's team debuted with a shutout victory and is ranked first in its group. Haiti won its match against Qatar and is tied on points with Mexico.

Jimmy Lozano's Mexican National Team made its debut in the Gold Cup with a 4-0 victory over Honduras at the NRG Stadium in Houston (Texas). Luis Romo scored two goals and Orbelín Pineda and Luis Chávez, with a goal each, sealed the first win in the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The fans filled NRG Stadium. 66,255 fans lined the stands in green and witnessed their team take first place in their group.

The Mexican team is in Group B with Haiti and Qatar, who played the other match on Sunday. Haiti won 2-1.

Mexico leads Group B with three points. Haiti is second with three points but with a worse goal difference. Qatar and Honduras are third and fourth, with no points.

The Mexican National Team will go head to head with Haiti next Thursday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, and will close the first round on Sunday, July 2 against Qatar in San Francisco, California.
