Colombian authorities arrested a man accused of participating in the attack against Spanish politician Alejo Vidal-Quadras. The subject was identified as Greg Oliver Higuera, a Venezuelan national. This is the fourth arrest related to the case. Of the prior three, two were of Spanish nationality and one was British.

Higuera's arrest occurred after he tried to cross into Venezuela through the Villa del Rosario border crossing and authorities verified that he had an arrest warrant with a red Interpol notice from Spain. According to the warrant, which was accessed by Colombian newspaper El Tiempo, the Venezuelan is accused of being "responsible for the logistical support that allowed ... the acquisition of the vehicles in which the necessary criminal intelligence was carried out" which led to the attempted assassination.

According to the Colombian media, Higuera facilitated the purchase of a motorcycle which the perpetrators of the attack used to escape. Furthermore, "he tried to divert information and obstruct evidence, filing a complaint for the theft of the vehicle after the fact."

According to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, authorities are still searching for the shooter. The suspect is a man of French and Tunisian nationality who is also "claimed by the French authorities for murder and has a police record for other crimes related to drug trafficking."

The attack against Vidal-Quadras

Vidal-Quadras, co-founder of the right wing political party Vox and former president of the Popular Party in Catalonia, was urgently hospitalized after being shot in the face in Madrid, Spain. The motive for the attack is still unknown.

As of now, it is known that the assailant was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle. When he crossed paths with the politician, who was alone and was about to get into a car, he shot him in the face, with the bullet passing through the jaw area. After shooting, the attacker ran into a black Yamaha where a driver was waiting for him and they fled.
