Venezuela: Luis Laiza, former head of Nicolás Maduro's Honor Guard, dies
According to several Venezuelan media reports, he allegedly took his own life after suffering from depression.
Luis Laiza, former head of the Venezuelan Presidential Honor Guard during the regime of Nicolás Maduro, died due to causes that are still officially unknown. However, several media outlets such as El Nacional report that he was suffering from depression and took his own life.
For a time, Laiza was the Venezuelan dictator's top security official, as well as for Maduro's predecessor, Hugo Chávez. He also held the position of director general of military counterintelligence.
Until his death, he served as joint director of Engineering of the Strategic Operational Command of the National Armed Forces (CEOFAN).
So far, Maduro has made no mention of the death of his former security director.
