Google CEO Sundar Pichai gave an interview in which he warned about the impact that artificial intelligence will have and highlighted the importance of preparing for the technology revolution.

On Sunday CBS aired an interview Scott Pelley did with Pichai where they discussed some of the artificial intelligence projects that Google tested. The technology company's CEO said AI left him "speechless" and warned that there will be an impact on products and services for all companies.

"We need to adapt as a society for it," he added while highlighting that many jobs will be disrupted including writers, architects, accountants and even software engineers.

"For example, you could be a radiologist, if you think about five to 10 years from now, you’re going to have an AI collaborator with you. You come in the morning, let’s say you have a hundred things to go through, it may say, ‘these are the most serious cases you need to look at first‘," he recounted.

Pichai explained that he believes regulations must be created so that artificial intelligence is "aligned with human values," laws and international treaties. "This is why I think the development of this needs to include not just engineers but social scientists, ethicists, philosophers and so on," he added.

The Google CEO said that while he does not believe humanity is ready for AI, he remains optimistic about its use.

"I’ve always thought of AI as the most profound technology humanity is working on. More profound than fire or electricity or anything that we’ve done in the past," he said.

Tech giants call for an AI halt

Recently, major personalities from the world of technology joined together to write a manifesto in which they called for a halt to the development of artificial intelligence. More than a thousand people signed this letter because of the serious consequences that the use of this intelligence could unleash.
