Former President Jimmy Carter was seen in public for the first time since news broke that he was receiving hospice care at home in February.

A week before his 99th birthday, the longest-living president in the nation's history was seen with his wife, Rosalynn Carter, at the Plains Peanut Festival in their hometown in the state of Georgia.

A video shared by The Carter Center on X, formerly Twitter, shows the couple aboard a van traveling through the streets full of people enjoying the parade.

Carter's appearance with his wife, who was diagnosed with dementia in May, shows that his health is a little better than a few months ago. However, despite this, his grandson Jason Carter told ABC that his grandparents are "coming to the end":

They are coming to the end, of course, at this time in their lives. But they are at peace, they are together, they are at home, they are in love, and you don't get much more than that, and they don't expect more. ... It's a true blessing for all of us to have had this much time with him.

The Carters married in 1946 and are the longest-married presidential couple in the nation's history.
