One person detained after crashing his car into the White House protective barrier

The Secret Service proceeded to activate the security protocol after the incident and is investigating the event.

The Secret Service confirmed that a man was taken into custody after driving his car into the outer barrier protecting the White House.

In a statement, a Secret Service spokesman assured that the possible threat had been controlled and the situation was under investigation.

"On Tuesday, October 21 at approximately 10:37 p.m., an individual drove his vehicle into the Secret Service vehicle gate located at 17th and E St, NW, DC. The individual was immediately arrested by U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division officers, and the vehicle was assessed by Secret Service and the Metropolitan Police Department and deemed safe."

The same spokesman assured that additional information would be provided at the conclusion of the investigation. After the incident occurred, the security protocol was activated and the White House was immediately secured.

Emergency services and the Fire Department were in the vicinity and proceeded to remove the vehicle.
