Greg Abbott announces his support for Donald Trump's presidential candidacy
The governor of Texas declared his support for the former president, asserting that if he reached the White House in 2024 he would secure the border and "restore law and order."
During a visit by Donald Trump to the southern border, Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, made public his support for the former president's campaign to return to the White House.
Abbott expressed his support for Trump's presidential campaign, asserting that if he wins the White House in 2024, he would secure the border and "restore law and order": "We need a president who will secure the border."
For his part, the former president declared that receiving the governor's support was a "tremendous honor" due to his hard work to secure the border under the serious immigration crisis that existed during the Biden Administration:
Abbott backs Trump, former president leads polls
Abbott made his support for Trump public at an event where meals were served - on the occasion of Thanksgiving - to members of law enforcement and services working for Operation Lone Star.
The governor's support for the former president comes to light as he leads the race for the Republican nomination to reach the White House in 2024. In the polls, Trump is well ahead of all his rivals. Among them: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis; Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy.
If he returns to the White House, Trump has repeatedly assured that he will be able to put an end to "all of the Biden administration's open border policies." Additionally, he has publicly stated that he will stop "the invasion of our southern border and begin the largest internal deportation operation in American history."
