Ted Cruz issues a warning about alleged Iranian spies in the Biden administration: “One of the greatest national security scandals in our nation’s history”
"One of them, as far as we know, remains a chief of staff in the Department of Defense to this day with access to classified documents," the Republican said.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) issued warnings about three alleged Iranian spies who worked for the Biden Administration, including one who still has access to classified documents, according to the Republican during an interview with Fox News host María Bartiromo.
In late June, the former White House special envoy for Iran, Rob Malley, was placed on unpaid leave, a punishment that even earned him the suspension of his security clearance.
Malley was one of the key men in the negotiations for the controversial nuclear deal between Iran and the United States reached during the Obama Administration and suspended in the Trump era.
According to Cruz, Malley’s case “remains one of the greatest national security scandals in our nation’s history.”
After that comment, the senator echoed a Semafor investigation published at the end of last month, where it was reported that the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs developed a detailed plan to influence the foreign policy of the United States towards the Ayatollah regime.
According to Semafor, Iran organized and dispatched a network of undercover foreign academics as part of the Iran Experts Initiative.
Malley, based on this initiative, hired two senior assistants and also directed a third Iranian agent who was selected to work on a think tank.
In particular, the report mentions Ariane Tabatabai, who works as Pentagon chief of staff for the Undersecretary of Defense for Special Operations and once worked for Malley collaborating with the Biden official on the negotiation team for the nuclear agreement.
“But we now know also that, among other things, three of Rob Malley’s top advisers, his inner circle that he relied on, were Iranian operatives,” Cruz said, referring to the agents. “They were recruited by the government of Iran.”
The senator then spoke about Tabatabai without mentioning her directly.
Cruz said the official still has access to classified files within the Pentagon, which represents a danger to national security and appears to be ignored by the traditional media.
“One of them, as far as we know, remains a chief of staff in the Department of Defense to this day with access to classified documents,” Cruz said. “Yet, the corporate media cannot be brought to mention that three Iranian spies were brought into senior levels of government with access to classified materials while working directly for Iran.”
