Julie Chávez Rodríguez will be the campaign manager for Joe Biden's reelection campaign. The woman, of Hispanic descent, is the director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. She had previously served as the deputy director of the U.S. president's 2020 candidacy and also worked alongside the vice president, Kamala Harris, as a senior advisor on the 2020 presidential campaign, after serving on her team in the California Senate office.

Julie Chavez has a curious family history to back her up. She is the granddaughter of Cesar Chavez, a farm worker leader and civil rights activist for U.S. citizens. Among his work, he was the founder, in 1962, of the National Farmers Association. The organization, which he founded with Dolores Huerta, later became the Unión de Campesinos union.

Chávez, behind Obama's "Yes, we can"?

His family roots could also be behind the mythical slogan Obama used in his 2008 election campaign. According to the BBC, his grandfather, Cesar, used a recurring phrase at National Farm Workers Association rallies:"Sí se puede" (translated in English as "Yes, we can").

This rallying cry would become, in 2008, Barack Obama's main slogan during his presidential campaign. Julie joined the Obama Administration a year later in what would be her first political job in Washington. Prior to this, she had been director of programs at the Cesar Chavez Foundation. Work carried out between 2001 and 2008.

Other names to contribute to Biden's re-election campaign

Chávez will not be alone. Joe Biden announced that Julie will have Quentin Fulks as deputy senior campaign manager. In addition, CNN announced that Biden would also feature Anita Dunn, Jen O'Malley Dillon, Mike Donilon and Steve Ricchetti. They will be the primary assistants to Julie Chavez and Quentin Fulks during this contest and will primarily play their role from the West Wing.

Joe Biden also unveiled who some of the campaign co-chairs would be. Prominent names include representatives Lisa Blunt Rochester (Delaware), Jim Clyburn (South Carolina), Veronica Escobar (Texas), Chris Coons (Delaware) and Tammy Duckworth (Illinois). A list joined by DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. All of them are expected to work in Wilmington, Delaware, where Biden is expected to establish the main headquarters for his re-election campaign.
