Conservatives attack Judge Chutkan for setting Trump's trial date one day before "Super Tuesday" election

On March 4, the trial against the former president will begin in Washington, D.C. for allegedly trying to challenge the results of the 2020 election.

Republican congressmen, conservative legal experts and right-wing political analysts are harshly criticizing the federal judge of the District of Columbia, Tanya Chutkan, for setting the trial date of former President Donald Trump for alleged electoral interference on March 4, 2024, one day before “Super Tuesday,” one of the most important election days of the Republican primaries.

By March 5, more than a dozen key states — including California, Maine, Texas, North Carolina, Utah and Virginia — are expected to hold their presidential primaries.

For many conservative politicians and analysts, the trial date demonstrates the political and electoral motivations behind the allegations against former President Trump.

“MARCH 4?!?! The DAY BEFORE Super Tuesday?!?!?” Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) wrote on Twitter. “Their attempts to interfere with the 2024 presidential election are so brazen it’s disgusting. Judge Chutkan should be thrown off the bench and run for DNC Chair.”

“U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan has set a trial date for President Trump’s sham J6 related prosecution for March 4, 2024,” Congressman Andrew Clyde (R-GA) posted. “This is ONE DAY before Super Tuesday. We must DEFUND this blatant election interference.”

Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, also harshly criticized Judge Chutkan, recalling that former President Barack Obama appointed her.

“Incredible election interference by judiciary,” Fitton tweeted. “Obama-appointed Judge Chutkan, whose impartiality has been seriously questioned, sets Biden regime trial for Trump’s disputing Biden’s election for middle of presidential campaign: March 4, 2024.”

Mike Davis, an Article III judicial expert, expressed disbelief at the date set by the U.S. District of Columbia judge, citing the argument that Trump’s defense does not necessarily have to read a staggering number of pages between now and March 4 to prepare its legal strategy.

“Truly insane. The Biden Justice Department turned over 12 million pages of records,” Davis wrote. “But Judge Chutkan doesn’t think defense counsel should even bother to read all of them? She thinks defense counsel should just defer to the Biden DOJ’s determination of what is important?”

Several national political commentators, such as Ben Shapiro, also wrote about Judge Chutkan’s decision.

“What an amazing coincidence!” tweeted Shapiro wryly.

Charlie Kirk, the founder of the conservative organization Turning Point USA, was not far behind and severely criticized the decision to set the trial just before “Super Tuesday.”

“U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan has set a trial date for President Trump’s J6 related indictment for March 4, 2024,” Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk tweeted. “This is also the date of the North Dakota caucus. AL, AK, AR, CA, CO, and other primaries are on March 5. ELECTION INTERFERENCE.”
