Congressional baseball game: GOP once again defeats Democratic Party

The Republicans won 16-6 and raised money for charity.

For a few hours each year, political disputes between members of Congress move from the legislative chambers to the baseball field. Republicans and Democrats squared off at the annual Congressional Baseball Game, a tradition held since 1909 that raises money for charity.

The Republican Party won again, just like the previous two games. This time it beat the Democratic Party 16-6 on Wednesday night.

Democratic Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (California) and Republican Roger Williams (Texas) served as technical directors for each of their teams. The GOP wore red while members of the Democratic Party ditched their usual blue jerseys for white.

Greg Steube (Florida), who was the starting pitcher, was the player of the night. The Republican representative wore a MAGA hat. He pitched four innings and gave up five runs. A few months ago he fell at home and broke his pelvis, punctured a lung and suffered a concussion.

Thanks to the game, an estimated $1.8 million was raised and will go to 44 charities.
