The Washington Post reported that Virginia House of Delegates candidate Susanna Gibson, a Democrat, live streamed sexual acts with her husband, accepting tips from viewers for specific requests. The videos, which were recorded on a platform, were published when Gibson had already launched her candidacy.

"Illegal invasion of my privacy"
Gibson, a nurse by profession and mother of two, released a statement about the public reaction to the videos, which she called "an illegal invasion of my privacy designed to humiliate me and my family." The candidate noted that the release of the videos "won't intimidate me and it won't silence me. My political opponents and their Republican allies have proven they’re willing to commit a sex crime to attack me and my family because there’s no line they won’t cross to silence women when they speak up."
Last Monday, the Post said that a Republican Party operative informed them about the videos of the Democratic candidate, and they were accessed by journalists. According to the report, the recordings can no longer be seen.
Gibson will continue her candidacy in Virginia
The couple broadcast their sexual encounters live through Chaturbate, a platform that allows sex workers to chat live with users who are watching their performance, which had 5,700 followers. However, the broadcasts are recorded in Recurbate, something that Gibson said she was not aware of and had not authorized. The report indicates that Gibson herself solicited donations from her followers to acquire what are called "tokens" for performing specific acts.
Gibson announced that, despite the video being surfaced, she is moving forward with her candidacy. The nurse will face Republican businessman David Owen for the seat of the 57th district of the Virginia House of Delegates. It is a hotly contested seat that will be key to the composition of the legislature in 2024, in which the GOP hopes to increase its majority.
