The House of Representatives has requested Hunter Biden and James Biden's records. Rep. James Comer, R-Kentucky and Republican chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, made the first official requests for documents from President Joe Biden's son, Hunter, and his brother, James, about their foreign business dealings.
🚨🚨🚨
The American people deserve transparency and accountability about the Biden family’s influence peddling.
I’m now calling on Hunter Biden, James Biden, and Eric Schwerin to provide @GOPoversight documents, records, and communications critical to this investigation.👇🏼 https://t.co/uIqxzjbmX6
— Rep. James Comer (@RepJamesComer) February 9, 2023
In a press release this Thursday, Comer informed Hunter and James Biden and his associate Eric Schwerins that he is seeking documents and records from the Biden's as part of his committee's investigation into any possible involvement the president may have had regarding financial irregularities, especially in business dealings abroad with "individuals who were connected to the Chinese Communist Party, to enrich themselves to the detriment of American interests."
A threat to national security
Republicans want to know whether members of the Biden family took advantage of Joe Biden's position as vice president to "sell access around the world."
If President Biden is compromised by deals with foreign adversaries and they are impacting his decision-making, this is a threat to national security.
Comer is asking the president's son and brother for any designated classified documents the two may possess, plus records between the president or James Biden and his wife, Sara Jones Biden, and Hunter Biden over an 11-year period of time beginning January 20, 2009, with regards to travel and financial activities.
The American people deserve transparency and accountability about the Biden family’s influence peddling. The Oversight Committee is committed to exposing the waste, fraud, and abuse that has taken place at the highest levels of our government. Hunter Biden, James Biden, and Eric Schwerin’s documents, records, and communications are critical to this investigation.
Now that Republicans have the majority in the House of Representatives, they have subpoena power. Rep. Comer has given the Biden's until Feb. 22 to respond before he considers issuing a subpoena for documents and testimony.
