It will also be the band's first album without drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away in August 2021. However, two of the 12 songs that make up "Hackney Diamonds" were recorded with Watts. Guitarist Keith Richards said in statements to Los 40, "We miss him very much":
It's very different since it's gone. It's the fourth of us. We miss him very much, but thanks to him we have also stayed honest with ourselves. Several songs we have included were written by him in 2019. He is present on the record.
The Rolling Stones to release the album on Oct. 20
During the premiere, which featured late night host Jimmy Fallon, The Rolling Stones announced that "Hackney Diamonds" will be released on Oct. 20. The album, according to Mick Jagger in statements picked up by NBC San Diego, took a long time to reach fans, but they are very proud of the final product:
I don’t want to be big-headed but we wouldn’t have put this album out if we hadn’t really liked it. We said we had to make a record we really love ourselves. We are quite pleased with it, we are not big headed about it, but we hope you all like it.
The event also featured the premiere of the first snippets of the “Angry” music video. The video stars "Euphoria" (HBO) actress Sydney Sweeney, who said during the premiere that she "didn't know it was going to be the first single, but I loved the song when I heard it. It's been stuck in my head."
