Switzerland advances to round of 16 after defeating Serbia

The Swiss team joins Brazil in the next round. Cameroon was left on the sidelines despite a great run for the World Cup.

What a crazy game! It was worthy of a World Cup. Stadium 974 vibrated with five goals. Switzerland had no problem heading to the round of 16. The Swiss depended on themselves to move to the next phase and they succeeded.

The Swiss team came out with a surprise in the goal, goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, who plays for Borussia Dortmund. Sommer played against Cameroon and Brazil but he sat out today’s game. That was no problem, they still took the win.

The first goal was scored in the 20th minute by Xherdan Shaqiri (1-0). Serbia did not fold their arms and six minutes later, Aleksandar Mitrović (1-1) scored for his team. The stadium erupted in cheers! The third goal of the game would give Serbia the momentary win thanks to forward Dušan Vlahović (1-2) who plays for Juventus at the club level.

The Swiss never stopped looking for another goal, which Breel Embolo (2-1) found in the 44th minute. As if that wasn’t enough, in the 48th minute, Remo Freuler (3-2) scored the last goal of the game.

With this result, Serbia, which was participating in its third World Cup as an independent nation, was eliminated from the group stage. Previously, when they were part of Yugoslavia, they reached the quarterfinals in 1954, 1958 and 1990.

In the next phase, Switzerland, a team with a great tradition in the history of the World Cup, will have to do the impossible to continue to the next rounds, as they have never advanced beyond the quarterfinals.

Cameroon eliminated despite a great run

The Brazilian National Team played a routine game against Cameroon, as they had already qualified for the round of 16.

During the match, both teams were similar, with Brazil dominating in tactical approach, ball possession, ball control and shots on goal.

First place in the group was hard to lose, and so it was. Cameroon was fighting for a miracle, which almost came true, but Switzerland ended up winning the game. Vincent Aboubakar (1-0) surprised everyone in the last few minutes with a stunning goal beating Brazil by the narrowest of margins. Vincent ripped off his shirt to celebrate leading to a double yellow card. This left his team with 10 men on the field.

Brazil had a chance in the final minutes to tie the game and failed to do so. However, the Verdeamarela advance to the round of 16 where they hope to get back their star player, Neymar Jr.

In addition to the result, which Cameroon celebrated despite being eliminated, Dani Alves, who became a historic member of Brazil's national team, stood out. The player has made 125 appearances with the national team, tying Roberto Carlos and only behind Cafu, who has 142.

One of the most supportive moments of the match came before the opening whistle when fans from both Switzerland and Brazil raised a banner with the image of the historic Pelé with the legend: 'Get well soon' for the Brazilian star, who is in the hospital with a severe respiratory infection but remains stable.
