'Sound of Freedom' surpasses $100 million at domestic box office
The film has surpassed major productions such as 'Indiana Jones' or 'Elementary' in the number of daily views in theaters.
Sound of Freedom, Alejandro Monteverde's feature film with Jim Caveziel leading the cast, has surpassed $100 million in box office sales at theaters nationwide on Wednesday. The film is proving to be a success for its producers, who invested around $14 million in the film, raised in part through crowdfunding.
The film opened on July 4 and has since grossed an average of $6.25 million per day. It managed to position itself as the most successful film in theaters on the day of its release, as well as on July 10 and 11. In the following days, it came in second place, behind the new Mission Impossible installment. In the box office it surpassed big Disney productions such as Indiana Jones and Elementary.
According to Variety magazine, it is the first U.S. indie production to cross the $100 million domestic gross mark since 2020.
Sound of Freedom, which follows former CIA agent Tim Ballard's fight against child trafficking in America, is based on a true story. Against the onslaught of progressive media, which insist on linking the film to QAnon and extreme right-wing movements, Sound of Freedom has also found numerous supporters. Former President Donald Trump recently hosted a screening at his New Jersey golf club.
The film is only available in English, but is attracting interest outside the United States. Last week, the producers announced the dates for its Spanish-language and Mexican releases. Beginning August 31, Hispanic audiences will be able to view the film in Spanish and in their theaters.
