Mbappé sends France through to round of 16 with two goals against Denmark

The French national team have won their first two games and thoroughly outclassed the Danes despite the close score.

France is the first team to qualify for the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar. Their 2-1 victory over Denmark was led by none other than Kylian Mbappé. The French star scored both goals in the victory and matched Ecuador's Enner Valencia as the tournament's top scorer.

The French team controlled the match, shooting 21 times. They had several of those chances in the first half, but they were unable to convert, and the game remained 0-0 at halftime.

The French squad used its superior speed and skill to continue piling on chances in the second half, which finally paid off in the 60th minute when Mbappé scored a great goal with some help from teammate Theo Hernandez (1-0). Danish center back Andreas Christensen equalized with a header from a corner (1-1), but it was of little use.

The French team continued to create havoc in the opponent's area, and man of the match Kylian Mbappé thumped home a great cross from Antoine Griezmann to make it 2-1.

With their victory, France became the first team to advance to the next round. Denmark sits at the bottom of the group at the time being and will have to beat Australia to qualify for the round of 16.
