Maryland: three killed and three wounded during shooting in Annapolis

The local police chief assured that the shootings were premeditated. One suspect is in custody.

A shooting in Annapolis, Md., ended early Sunday morning with three dead and at least three wounded. The incident took place in a private home where a graduation party was reportedly taking place. At 8 p.m. local time, police reported that a series of gunshots were heard at 1000 Paddington Place, and chaos ensued.

The shooting ended with one suspect in custody. Initially, one person was reported dead. Hours later, authorities updated the figure, claiming that three people had died and at least three others were injured. The condition of the three injured is not known, although the police assured that one of them had been hospitalized.

As Annapolis Police Chief Ed Jackson explained, all of the victims were men between the ages of 20 and 50. He also stated that there was no threat to the public even though they were aware that the shooting was premeditated: "My message to the community is that this was not a random act of violence," he said in statements reported by Fox News.

Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley was quick to speak out. During a press conference, the mayor took the opportunity to re-emphasize the need to legislate on the use of weapons in order to put an end to incidents such as this one:

We are saddened for the families and for Annapolis that they have to deal with this. This can happen anywhere and nothing gets resolved through the use of guns. We are in a very middle class neighborhood in Annapolis, Maryland. Tonight is an example of, yet again, senseless violence, people trying to resolve issues with guns. It is the most ridiculous thing we can do as a society. We have to do things to stop this.
